One in a million 🪾 One of the 2500 native trees planted by The 100 Million Trees Project at the beautiful Beech Park Golf Club on the 15th April was the one millionth, a significant milestone for the project. A great crowd of enthusiasts attended, and the mini-forest of 13 different native species was planted in less than 4 hours. Our thanks and gratitude to John Curran, the President of the club, who welcomed everybody and spoke eloquently about the importance of projects such as this for looking after our natural world, and David Callanan, the golf course manager, who organised a perfectly prepared site, already fenced to keep the rabbits and hares at bay. Thanks also to the Ladies of the Golf Club who prepared delicious cakes, tea and coffee and welcomed everyone back to the club house to warm up. Thanks to Forestry Services who planted most of the trees and to the sponsors Uniphar & WhizzKids Investments Ltd for their sponsorship. Thanks also to those who were present to celebrate this day: Teige Ryan, Director of None So Hardy forestry, who have supplied almost all of the native trees used; Catriona Taylor (Blessington Lakes Garden Centre) who has provided expert Arborial advice; David Carroll, West Cork Online who provides a lovely website; Paddy Bruton, Gearoid Kennedy and Sandra Garzon from Forestry Services Ltd who have planted almost all of the 1,000,000 trees; Martin (Blake and Bailey) and Frankie, who have provided a wonderful visual “running commentary” of the project over its life-time and Iarla Mongey (Q4 PR) for his support and communication on the project. Lovely to see some of those who had previously had mini-forests planted turn up to take part in this special event. We were delighted to welcome Maurice Pratt, Chairman of Uniphar Plc. Uniphar have been staunch supporters and major sponsors of the project since 2023. Overall a lovely community atmosphere at a lovely club. So here’s to the future. Thanks to everyone in the 30 counties (to date) who have supported this all-Ireland environmental effort. We should all be custodians of our natural world
